So, as you’ve probably already seen, I'm Kate, and I’m extremely passionate about designing products and services that work for people. I believe the experiences we build should solve real problems, add tangible value and be accessible to all.

I’m also a pretty keen photographer.

My UX principles

  1. I believe UX is a team sport, even if you’re a design team of one. I actively encourage the teams around me to participate in design thinking in their day-to-day tasks. Good UX design is as much about the right mindset as it is about being a good practitioner and, in work environments where UX is less mature, it’s important to get advocates on your side.

  2. Building the right product or service can only happen when you know what outcome you’re trying to get to. Identifying the problem is one thing, defining the measurement of success is just as important. I try to help identify the ‘one metric that matters’ to gauge our successes (and failures) as early as possible.

  3. Real-world UX is about marrying the needs of the user with the goals of the business. Understanding business goals and leaning into commercial conversations helps to shape priorities and ultimately put forward the right solutions at the right time.
